As the countdown begins for the world-renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, an atmosphere of devotion and celebration is sweeping across Odisha. Known as the Ghosa Yatra, Sri Gundicha Yatra, or simply the Rath Yatra, this sacred festival stands as a timeless symbol of faith, unity, and Odisha’s glorious cultural heritage.

Yet, amidst the many magnificent Rath Yatras, Kankana Sikhari in the heart of Chilika Lake preserves a tradition unlike any other. Here, the divine journey of the Holy Trinity unfolds not on roads, but across the tranquil blue waters of Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon. A beautifully crafted boat, designed in the form of a sacred chariot, carries the deities in a breathtaking Water Rath Yatra, transforming the lake into a divine pathway of devotion.

The mesmerizing blend of spirituality and nature makes this celebration one of the rarest and most captivating religious traditions in the world.
With thousands of devotees expected to witness this extraordinary spectacle, the Khordha Superintendent of Police, Shri Smit Parshottamdas Parmar, IPS, accompanied by Nachuni Police Station IIC Shri Bibhuti Bhusan Mahapatra, conducted a

comprehensive inspection of lulakhetra Kankana Sikhari. The senior officers reviewed security arrangements, crowd management strategies, emergency preparedness, and transportation facilities to ensure that every pilgrim experiences the festival in a safe, peaceful, and well-organized environment.
The officers also held extensive discussions with local residents and community leaders, including Sushanta Kumar Sahu, Ramesh Chandra Palei, and respected representatives from Kalia, Patia, and Bhat villages. Their insights and cooperation will play a vital role in ensuring the seamless execution of this sacred event.

As faith prepares to sail across the shimmering waters of Chilika, the district administration stands fully committed to delivering a secure, disciplined, and unforgettable celebration. More than a festival, the Water Rath Yatra of Kankana Sikhari is a living testament to Odisha’s rich spiritual legacy—where devotion knows no boundaries and even the waters become a pathway to the Divine.
