Berhampur, October: In a major step towards promoting renewable energy and empowering rural households, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has intensified the adoption of rooftop solar systems under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The initiative aims to make clean energy affordable and accessible for rural consumers, while ensuring quality installation, safety, and long-term sustainability. Through the ULA approach, TPSODL acts as a facilitator—aggregating consumer demand, managing technical execution, and ensuring seamless commissioning of solar rooftop systems across villages in Southern Odisha.
As part of this ongoing effort, a 1 kWp Rooftop Solar (RTS) installation at the residence of Mr. Prabhakar Behera in Bhatakumarada village, Bhatakumarada GP under Purusottampur Electrical Division, Ganjam district, was successfully commissioned on in the presence of Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, and senior officials of the company. This installation marks an important milestone for the village, which is actively embracing solar energy as a reliable and sustainable source of power.
Under the scheme, 22 consumers from Bhatakumarada have so far deposited their contribution of ₹8,747 each, while 18 rooftop solar plants (1 kWp each) have already been installed and energised. The remaining systems are under various stages of completion and are expected to be commissioned shortly. Once completed, the entire village will witness a significant transformation—reducing dependence on grid electricity, lowering power bills, and contributing to a cleaner environment.
The ULA model under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, has proven to be a game-changer for rural areas. The model ensures economies of scale, standardised installation quality, and faster implementation. Under the ULA model, a 1 kWp rooftop solar plant can generate about 100 units of electricity every month. This helps a household meet its power needs using clean energy. By using solar power, the consumer can save nearly ₹5,000 every year. It is an easy and smart way to reduce electricity bills and support green energy.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, ‘Our vision is to make every household in Southern Odisha a partner in India’s solar journey. The adoption of rooftop solar in Bhatakumarada reflects how rural communities are coming forward to embrace clean energy with enthusiasm and confidence. TPSODL will continue to extend all possible support to help consumers benefit from the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and move towards energy independence.’
The success of the Bhatakumarada initiative reinforces TPSODL’s commitment to sustainability and rural empowerment—paving the way for a brighter, greener, and Vikashit Odisha.
